LPX voice commander user manual

Thank you for using Voice commander alongside your production in Logic Pro X! Here is a quick overview of the application features.

LPX Voice commander is build around 5 main functions

1.  Track Navigation
2.  Time Navigation
3.  Voice Commands
4.  Mix Mode.
5.  Word Builder.

To install Voice Commander, drag and drop the Voice Commander Logic.app file in your application folder. When run for the first time, system preferences will asky to allow Voice Commander to control the computer. Please click open to access the Security & Pricacy settings.

Next click the lock and enter you password in order to check Voice Commander from the right side panel.

That is it, you are now all set, follow the steps from the next chapter "Track Navigation" to start the Voice Commander.

Plug your microphone into your mac audio input or any input of your audio external device. If don't have a microphone you can use the built-in microphone of the machine .

Then go to apple icon > system preferences > audio > and click the input tab : select here the port you want voice commander to be listening to.

If you select the same audio input device in your system preferences and inside logic we recommand not using the continuos mode.

When continuos mode is unchecked the Fn of your keyboard will behave like a console talkback button that listens when its being pressed and stops as soon as you release it. To disable continuous mode, open the Voice Commander application, then go to preferences > listening mode and uncheck continuos mode.

Some tasks in Logic pro, like editing audio tracks, can be tedious and feel repetitive. Voice Commands as been designed to help you through this process, bridging logic key commands with Voice Commands.

Creating A Voice Command:
Please open the Command Builder Window via Menu > Window> Voice Command Builder or hit ⌘2.
The shortcut you enter in the Command Builder have to precisely match the ones defined in the key command window in Logic Pro X. To access the key commands in logic press ⌥K while Logic is activated.

Pick the key command to trigger with the Voice Command

1/ Click the + button at the bottom left to add a new voice command and give it a name. This is the name to call to trigger the voice command.

In the “Logic Pro Shortcut” box record your shortcut in the logic key command field. You have to first click the field before entering the key command. Add the corresponding logic command name in the “description” to have an overview of the functions you add.

Stack Multiple Key Commands In A Single Voice Command:
You can also customize a Voice Commandthat will trigger multiple shortcuts back to back. For instance while editing an audio sample, you may want to split the region at marque or playhead position, then set nudge value to beat and then nudge to next beat. To do so you will have to add the 3 corresponding key commands. If you know Logic Pro shortcuts like the back of your hand, you will come up with lots of useful tricks to boost your workflow.

Chain Commands:
To make the Command Builder even more flexible, we have implemented the possibility to chain Time or Track Navigation to your custom Voice Command. Then you will only have to utter a track name or a bar number corresponding to the navigation selected in the first drop down box, to trigger both the Navigation and the selected Voice Command, in a row.
Keep in mind that you can stack multiple shortcuts in a single voice command, and loop it with the repeat function. This is where the magic happens!

Command Builder Window

This mode is a variant of the navigation mode. When you are in track navigation, you can select tracks by calling them whether you are in the Track window or the Mixer window. The Mix mode will still select the track you call but on top of it, it opens all the plug-ins of its channel. On the next track you call, the currently opened plug in windows will be replaced by the next track ones.
To enable the Mix mode, click Mix mode via the status bar icon.

Make sure you have the mixer window open or minimized in the dock.

Press Fn key and call a track. You will see the track plug-in windows popping up. Arrange the windows as you wish to have a confortable working area to tinker the knobs and faders. Do the same for every track you call, logic pro retain their display layout so you will have to do this only once. If multiple track plug ins need to be displayed together, pressing the control key while calling the next track will not close the previous ones. To stop Mix mode click Quit Mix mode again in the status bar icon, and it will close all the currently opened plug in windows.

When your Track Names or Voice Commands contains a word unknown from our dictionary, the application is allocating an arbitrary pronunciation. The word builder function allows you to customize words in case a word pronunciation does not match your expectations.
To open the Window > Word Builder or hit ⌘3.
Spell the word in the top field :
Next, enter the word pronunciation of you choice by clicking the syllables boxes in the word builder chart. Phoneme syllables are displayed as phonemes which reflects the sound of the US american language. To help you get used to their respective sounds click the play button underneath :
In this particular exemple we add : “logic rules”

Click Add Word to update the Voice Commander dictionary with this new word.

You also have the possibility to override the current pronunciation of an existing word. If the entered word already exist this window will pop up, if ok is clicked the pronunciation will be changed according to your edits.

Now that you have grasped these few concepts, you are ready to use the Voice Commander !
Have a happy and productive session.
